OTel-Arrow Phase 2: From Efficient Transport to Efficient Telemetry Pipelines

Summary

Phase 2 of the OTel-Arrow project explores using Apache Arrow as an internal data representation for telemetry pipelines to efficiently handle increasing data volumes. By implementing a Rust-based Dataflow Engine that maintains data in columnar batches throughout processing, researchers demonstrated significantly lower CPU and memory overhead during common operations, such as attribute renaming, compared to traditional OTLP-based methods.
