Instrument and monitor Boomi integration flows with OpenTelemetry and Datadog

This article details how to improve observability of Boomi, an iPaaS, using OpenTelemetry (OTel). While Boomi recently added native OTel support for exporting traces, logs, and metrics, it requires a backend to store and analyze that data. The article demonstrates using Datadog’s distribution of the OpenTelemetry Collector (DDOT) to ingest Boomi’s OTel data, correlate it with infrastructure metrics, and gain deeper insights into integration processes – including identifying the root cause of failures beyond simply that a process failed. Adding the Datadog Java tracer further enhances visibility down to the JVM level, revealing performance bottlenecks within Boomi’s integration flows.
